U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik, who has represented New York’s 21st district in Congress since 2015, used her social media platform this week to criticize state bail reform policies and the rhetoric around police funding in New York.
On July 29, Stefanik posted on X: “In @GovKathyHochul’s New York, violent sexual criminals are released again and again due to failed bail reform.”
The following day, July 30, she commented on recent statements made about police funding after a shooting incident involving five people, including an NYPD officer. Stefanik wrote: ” When she was asked about Mamdani’s Defund the Police positions and statements on national TV after the horrific shooting of five including an NYPD Officer in NYC, Kathy Hochul first tries to hide by saying Mamdani is “unelected” and then DEFENDS his statement calling to”
Later that same day, Stefanik added: “When they say Defunding the Police, believe them. Don’t let the Democrat stenographers in the media try to explain it away. This would be catastrophic for New York.”
Stefanik has served as a member of Congress since 2015 after replacing Bill Owens. She was born in Albany in 1984 and resides in Schuylerville. The congresswoman graduated from Harvard University with an AB degree.
Her remarks come amid ongoing debate over criminal justice reforms and policing policies within New York State.
