U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik, who has represented New York’s 21st district in Congress since 2015, used her social media platform on July 15, 2025, to criticize CUNY Chancellor Dr. Félix Matos Rodríguez and Governor Kathy Hochul over recent events at Hunter College and allegations related to Medicaid.

In a post made at 18:36 UTC, Stefanik shared a video and stated: “WATCH: Dr. Félix Matos Rodríguez (@ChancellorCUNY) fails to explain why ‘it’s not that simple’ for Hunter College to take immediate action to remove a swastika from campus.”

Later the same day, at 19:25 UTC, she called for the removal of Dr. Rodríguez as CUNY Chancellor, writing: “After his failed leadership at CUNY allowing antisemitism to rage on NY campuses to his disgraceful testimony at today’s hearing, I am calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to fire CUNY Chancellor Rodriguez.

At 21:09 UTC on July 15, Stefanik posted another message referencing alleged corruption involving New York’s Medicaid program under Governor Hochul’s administration:

Elise Stefanik was born in Albany, New York in 1984 and currently resides in Schuylerville. She graduated from Harvard University with an AB degree. Stefanik succeeded Bill Owens as representative of New York’s 21st district in Congress.

Governor Kathy Hochul holds authority over the CUNY Board of Trustees, which is responsible for hiring and firing senior university officials.
