Saratoga, N.Y. – House Republican Leadership Chairwoman Elise Stefanik recently appeared on the Patriot with New York State Assemblyman David DiPietro to discuss various issues affecting New York under Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration. The discussion touched upon the state’s affordability crisis, high taxes, and crime rates.
Stefanik criticized the current Democratic leadership in New York, attributing the state’s economic challenges to policies implemented by Governor Hochul. “If you look at the crises that have been created under single-party Democrat rule, you have an affordability crisis,” she stated. She emphasized her efforts in Congress to reduce taxes for New Yorkers and highlighted significant tax cuts achieved by raising the cap on state and local tax deductions.
Addressing crime concerns, Stefanik pointed out rising crime rates and sanctuary state policies as contributing factors to a mass exodus from New York. She advocated for stronger law enforcement support and changes to bail reform policies.
Stefanik also commented on Zohran Mamdani’s influence within the Democratic Party, describing him as a “full-blown communist” who poses challenges for small businesses in New York City. She expressed concern over his impact on senior Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries.
Discussing legislative achievements, Stefanik praised what she called the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” highlighting its focus on tax cuts, border security funding, childcare provisions, school choice incentives, and energy policy reforms. She asserted that these measures would benefit New Yorkers economically before upcoming elections.
Regarding Medicaid, Stefanik criticized Governor Hochul’s management of the program in New York State. She argued that taxpayer dollars should not be used for illegal immigrants’ benefits but rather for qualified residents.
