Later that day, she reflected on her work supporting veterans through legislation: “I first introduced the Ernest Peltz Accrued Veterans Benefits Act two Congresses ago. The following day, Stefanik celebrated progress on her bill: “Honored to pass my bill to help our brave veterans in #NY21 and across America.

It is named in honor of WWII American hero Ernest Peltz.

“Stefanik said she was inspired to introduce the legislation after seeing the struggles Peltz’s family went through to access benefits” (February 3, 2026).

Elise Stefanik has represented New York’s 21st District since 2015 and succeeded Bill Owens in Congress. Born in Albany in 1984 and currently residing in Schuylerville at age 38, Stefanik is a Harvard University graduate.
