Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, Chairwoman of House Republican Leadership, said on Mar. 20 that she supports the Trump Administration’s decision to sue Harvard University for what she described as a failure to protect Jewish students.
Stefanik said the lawsuit follows years of Congressional oversight in which she played a leading role. She stated, “This is the absolute correct decision by the Trump Administration to sue Harvard for failing to protect Jewish students. This is after years of Congressional oversight work that I was proud to lead in holding Harvard accountable.”
Stefanik currently serves in the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 21st district, having taken office in 2015 after succeeding Bill Owens, according to information about her tenure and background available from her official office. She has held this position since 2015 and chairs House Republican Leadership.
Stefanik was born in Albany, New York in 1984 and resides in Schuylerville. She is also an alumna of Harvard University with an AB degree.
The broader implications of this lawsuit could impact how universities address student safety and respond to federal scrutiny regarding campus protections.
