The majority of students in Essex County schools during the 2021-22 school year were white, according to the New York State Education Department.

Of the 3,834 students attending Essex County schools, 96.3% were white. Multiracial students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 1.3% of Essex County students.

In the previous school year, white was also the most common student ethnicity in Essex County, representing 96.5% of the student body.

Keene Central School had the most diverse student body in Essex County, with white, Hispanic, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian or Pacific Islander, multiracial, and Black.

In the 2022-23 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county dropped to 0.6% when compared to the previous year.
