House Republican Leadership Chairwoman Elise Stefanik addressed the State Senate Conference and New York State Assembly Republicans in Albany as the legislative session draws to a close. Following her remarks, she held a press conference.
Chairwoman Stefanik stated, “I am honored to join Leader Ortt and Leader Barclay to meet with the Republican Senate and Assembly Conferences for the last week of the legislative session. Another year, another failed, radical, reckless agenda and legislative session in New York State passed by single Party Democrat rule led by the worst Governor in America Kathy Hochul.”
Stefanik criticized Governor Kathy Hochul and New York Democrats for passing what she described as a “massive, bloated $254 billion budget” that is detrimental to workers, families, farms, small businesses, and law enforcement. She further argued that this legislative session has worsened issues related to affordability and crime.
She also mentioned a “$10 million taxpayer-funded slush fund” allegedly used for Attorney General Tish James’ legal issues. According to Stefanik, “Kathy Hochul’s radical Far Left Democrat agenda is driving businesses and hardworking families out of the state.”
Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt commented on what he perceives as excessive spending without tangible results: “Albany Democrats are wrapping up another session with record spending, radical mandates, and zero results for struggling New Yorkers.” He criticized Governor Hochul’s budget for failing to reduce costs while increasing energy bills and grocery prices. Ortt also expressed concerns about public safety policies.
Assembly Republican Leader Will Barclay echoed similar sentiments: “We’re approaching the end of another legislative session and unfortunately the major issues plaguing New York will persist for another year.” Barclay noted that despite a significant budget being passed by Democrats in 2025, he believes it does not address key issues like cost of living or public safety effectively.
The press conference highlighted Republican leaders’ dissatisfaction with current Democratic governance in New York State.
