Today, House Republican Leadership Chairwoman Elise Stefanik and Congressman Nick Langworthy introduced the Safeguarding America from Extremists Risks (SAFER) at the Border Act. The legislation aims to address issues related to immigration parole policies.
Chairwoman Stefanik criticized New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s support for President Joe Biden’s border policies, stating, “The Worst Governor in America Kathy Hochul embraced and fully supported Joe Biden’s catastrophic open border policies. She has put all New Yorkers at risk by prioritizing illegals first and New Yorkers LAST with her sanctuary state policies.” She emphasized the need to secure borders and protect law-abiding citizens by co-leading this legislative effort with Congressman Langworthy.
Congressman Langworthy expressed concern over the impact of current border policies on communities in New York State. He stated, “My constituents are fed up with the flood of murderers, terrorists, and dangerous individuals that poured into our communities across New York State—all because of the reckless, failed open-border policies of the Biden administration.”
The SAFER at the Border Act proposes several measures: barring parole for high-risk aliens, ending loopholes for refugee parole outside established processes, and targeting national security threats by prohibiting entry to individuals linked to terrorism or criminal networks.
Recent incidents have highlighted these concerns. For instance, Basel Bassel Ebbadi, an individual trained by Hezbollah who crossed into the U.S. illegally in March 2024 with intentions to build a bomb, is currently facing deportation.
