Today, it was announced that the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) has allocated over $4.2 million in funding for projects in Upstate New York and the North Country. This development was shared by House Republican Chairwoman Elise Stefanik.

Last year, Chairwoman Stefanik supported the Consolidated Appropriations Act, which secured $41 million for the NBRC. In 2023, she introduced bipartisan legislation to extend the NBRC’s operations for another decade, aiming to promote economic development and improve rural healthcare access.

The funding breakdown is as follows:
– Lake Placid Association for Music, Drama and Art: $1,000,000

– Village of Whitehall: $1,000,000.00
– City of Plattsburgh: $100,000.00
– Lake Champlain-Lake George Regional Planning Board: $240,000.00
– Town of Webb: $485,000.00

Chairwoman Stefanik expressed her pride in securing these funds stating that they will “spur economic growth and community development throughout our Upstate and North Country communities.” She emphasized her commitment to increasing investment in local communities as a priority in Congress.

Dave Bender from Community Health Center of the North Country highlighted the critical nature of this grant for expanding pediatric care services.

James Lemons from Lake Placid Center for the Arts acknowledged how revitalized facilities would boost cultural tourism and local economy impact. Mayor Wendell Hughes from Plattsburgh appreciated the grant aiding a wastewater system feasibility study crucial for regional growth.
