House Republican Leadership Chairwoman Elise Stefanik has introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives condemning the July 28, 2025, act of violence in New York City. The attack resulted in the deaths of three civilians and an off-duty New York City Police Department officer, Didarul Islam. The resolution also recognizes the response by the NYPD in neutralizing the shooter.
“I am proud to lead this House Resolution to condemn the heinous attack on innocent victims on July 28, 2025, in Midtown Manhattan, where a deranged shooter would have taken more lives if it were not for the heroism of the NYPD,” said Chairwoman Stefanik. “Every day brave men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line to protect New York families. Anti-police policies should have no place in our great state. God Bless our First Responders and heroes in blue.”
The resolution outlines four actions: condemning the violence that claimed four lives; honoring those killed and supporting their families; praising Officer Didarul Islam, Aland Etienne, and all members of the NYPD for their actions; and rejecting divisive rhetoric or violence against law enforcement officers at all levels.
Stefanik has represented New York’s 21st congressional district since 2015 (https://stefanik.house.gov/2025/8/stefanik-leads-resolution-condemning-heinous-nyc-attack-honoring-victims-and-nypd-heroism). She was born in Albany, New York, in 1984 and currently resides in Schuylerville. Stefanik is a graduate of Harvard University.
