Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) has secured $10 million in funding for the Great Lake Fishery Commission (GLFC) to support efforts to preserve and protect Lake Champlain. The funds will also be used to create an educational and outreach center aimed at engaging residents and visitors in restoration activities.

“I am committed to preserving NY21’s cherished environments, protecting our wealth of natural resources, and combating harmful invasive species that threaten Lake Champlain’s wildlife habitats. This $10 million will benefit efforts against invasive species to uphold the watershed’s biodiversity and strengthen our local economy. The funding will also help create an outreach space for Upstate New Yorkers and visitors to learn, engage, and actively participate in the restoration of Lake Champlain and its watershed for years to come,” said Stefanik.

Stefanik has previously advocated for increased attention on Lake Champlain, including sending a letter urging both the Lake Champlain Basin Program and the GLFC to establish an outreach and educational center on the New York side of the lake.

Elise Stefanik has represented New York’s 21st District in Congress since 2015, succeeding Bill Owens. She was born in Albany, New York in 1984 and currently resides in Schuylerville. Stefanik is a graduate of Harvard University with an AB degree.
