Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who represents New York’s 21st district and serves as Chair of House Republican Leadership, has signed a discharge petition to force a vote on banning members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from owning or trading individual stocks. The petition was filed by Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida.
Stefanik stated, “Throughout my entire 11 years in Congress, I have never purchased or traded a single individual stock because I believe it is unethical. Meanwhile, we have seen Members of Congress in both parties abuse their position in elected office by making millions on stock trades—no one has been more corrupt in this practice than former Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi. This bipartisan, commonsense, good governance discharge petition will finally crack down on the corrosive decay of a Congress that is failing the American people—particularly New Yorkers who are struggling with an affordability crisis created by Kathy Hochul.”
Stefanik has represented New York’s 21st district since 2015 after succeeding Bill Owens. She was born in Albany, New York in 1984 and currently resides in Schuylerville. Stefanik graduated from Harvard University with an AB degree.
