Today, House Republican Chairwoman Elise Stefanik announced her support for a legislative measure she refers to as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” This bill aims to fulfill several of former President Trump’s key policy objectives. Stefanik stated, “Promises made, promises kept. I was proud to stay in Congress to vote to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill to deliver on President Trump’s historic mandate.”
The bill includes provisions such as enacting what is described as the largest tax cut in American history and measures aimed at boosting economic growth and securing national borders. It also seeks to enhance energy independence, reduce government spending, and promote peace through strength.
As a leading figure in the New York Republican Delegation, Stefanik emphasized her role in advocating for an increase in the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap to $40,000. She claimed this adjustment represents “the largest tax cut for New Yorkers ever” and contrasted it with policies supported by New York Democrats under Governor Kathy Hochul.
Other elements of the bill include eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay, expanding childcare access, doubling the child tax credit, creating investment accounts for newborns, and allocating over $175 billion towards reducing crime by deporting criminal illegal immigrants from sanctuary cities. The legislation also proposes hiring 10,000 new ICE officers for similar purposes.
Further provisions aim at strengthening Medicaid services in New York and supporting educational opportunities while holding universities accountable. The bill promotes what Stefanik describes as “American energy dominance.”
