Disease Surveillance Suggests a Tough Winter Ahead. While NYSDOH circulates Flu case information, we thought it is important to start sending weekly influenza case updates for Essex County. We will send this report each week on Wednesdays. In addition, there have been recently reported pediatric deaths from influenza and COVID-19, including in otherwise healthy children who were unvaccinated. There are also high rates of hospitalization for other respiratory viruses. The good news is that for both influenza and COVID-19 there is a vaccine approved for children 6 months and older, including COVID bivalent boosters. But far too few families are opting to vaccinate their children.
